Hi everyone, I’m Brooke Gaines, a Speech-Language Pathologist at Honey in the Rock! I completed my undergraduate studies at Murray State University, and went on to earn my master’s degree in 2022. I live in Alamo with my husband, Grant, and my little boys, Conor & Crew. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the TN River, and cheering for the Vols!
My favorite part about my job is that I get to work with patients of all ages: babies, toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults! I entered this diverse field with a servant’s heart, seeking to positively impact the lives of my patients and their families.
Love,
Brooke

Articulation Therapy consists of working to improve pronunciation. The treatment plan focuses on the specific sounds causing your difficulty.
Language therapy addresses children with delays or disorders in the following areas:
Fluency therapy involves reducing the frequency and severity of disfluencies; reducing physical concomitant behaviors and learned escape/avoidance behaviors; reducing tension and effort in communication (during both fluent and disfluent speech).
A voice disorder occurs when voice quality, pitch, and loudness differ or are inappropriate for an individual’s age, gender, cultural background, or geographic location.
At Honey in the Rock, we specialize in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) It is a researched based technique used to improve vocal loudness in patients with Parkinson’s.
Cognitive speech therapy is a type of therapy that works and focuses on a wide variety of speaking & communication skills, and is not only for those having difficulty speaking. Some of the areas cognitive speech therapy targets are language, and improving one’s general cognitive skills. Cognitive health includes such things as attention, focus and concentration, orientation, word retrieval, and executive functioning which refers to such skills as problem solving and reasoning. Cognitive disorders can range in severity, from mild impairments to more advanced conditions such as dementia. Working on these types of skills, especially cognition, can help to increase independence and quality of life.
Dysphagia occurs when there is a problem with the neural control or the structures involved in any part of the swallowing process. Weak tongue or cheek muscles may make it hard to move food around in the mouth for chewing. A stroke or other nervous system disorder may make it difficult to start the swallowing response, a stimulus that allows food and liquids to move safely through the throat. Another difficulty can occur when weak throat muscles, such as after cancer surgery, cannot move all of the food toward the stomach. Dysphagia may also result from disorders of the esophagus.
Here at Honey In The Rock, we specialize in a researched based technique called eSwallow. It is neuromuscular electrical stimulation. It uses a small current to pass through external electrodes to stimulate inactive swallowing muscles.
Aural rehabilitation is therapy focused on improving understanding of spoken language for people with hearing loss. This involves training people with hearing loss how to manipulate their environment to help them understand people when they speak as well as learn skills to help make more sense of verbal information.
